Molly Sawyer
Molly Sawyer was born in Atlanta, GA where she began the study
of ceramics through pottery-on-the-wheel. In 1995 she graduated
from Guilford College, Greensboro, North Carolina where she received
a B.A. in Studio Art focusing on ceramics. After graduation, she
set up her studio in Greensboro and continued with ceramic sculpture,
producing abstract organic forms.
In 1998 Sawyer returned to Atlanta, to act as an assistant in
the ceramics studio at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. Here she
began to move into study of the human figure through clay. She
relocated to New York City in 2001 where she studied the figure
at the New York Studio School and the Art Students League of New
York.
In 2004 Sawyer began her investigation of horses. These she sculpts
in wax and then casts are made in bronze and bonded bronze. Molly
Sawyer is part of the stable of artists’ with Mason Murer
Fine Art in Atlanta, Georgia and currently works independently
in her studio in Jersey City, New Jersey.
