She has also exibited at The Contemporary, Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Portsmouth Museums in Abingdon, VA, and Matrix Gallery in Sacramento. Her awards include two Individual Artist Grants from the City of Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs, an Individual Artist Grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts and the Grand Prize award for the Georgia Artists '89 Exhibiton of the Dekalb Council for the Arts. Reviews have been published in Art Papers, The Atlanta Journal, Creative Loafing and The Brimingham News. Her work is found in numerous private and corporate collections.

Mitchell has developed a personal language of animals, strange figures and ordinary objects which she utilizes in visually and emotionally packed narratives. Though autobiographical in origin, the final pieces address compelling universal issues. The current series combines painting with digital photography. The child-like innocence and vulnerability of play-doh figures, toys and doll's clothing tell complex stories of this temporary life. Personal images: a man's coat, a lost bird, a feather. These quiet symbols often lie under a scarred surface, the intricate cracks and tears that time inevitably leaves on each physical object and soul.
