Allen Matthews

An Atlanta native, Allen graduated from University of Georgia 1960 with a BFA in Fine Art. He worked as an Art Director in the Coca Cola Company Art Department from 1953 to 1955, and after college as AD at BBDO advertising on Delta Airlines account. He began photography career at the same time. His first published editorial work, in 1961, is the railroad reportage in this exhibit. Allen worked exclusively in photography from the publication of that work until present.

Allen Matthews visited Cortona in 1984 and then lived in Cortona from late 1984 through early '87. After many extended visits between '87 and 2000 he has stayed primarily in Cortona since 2000.

Allen has won many awards for his work in editorial and advertising photography, including CA Magazine, NY Art Directors Show, One Show, Atlanta AD Show, Miami, Jacksonville, Richmond, Charlotte, Birmingham, etc. He has been making images in Italy since'84.
