William Entrekin
William Entrekin was born in Rome Georgia in 1946, the
son of mill workers. As a youth the family moved from mill town
to mill town as work came and went for his parents. William had
one brother Louis but often played alone and was very unhappy
in school. The two or three moves a year meant new schools and
few friends. This solitude was fertile ground for his imagination
and creativity that later in life would pour out into his work.
He was often sick as a child and spent hours drawing and dreaming
of becoming an artist.
“When I look at a painting, I try to imagine myself inside
it, and I imagine myself breathing in it. Some works that I see
would suffocate me. In others, when I can feel the crispness of
the air and smell the trees and woods around me, then I know it’s
right!”
Entrekin seems to follow no set style nor does he set limits with
is watercolors. He seams to spar with medium and paper to express
the deep feeling that he has for each subject. These people and
places he paints are very close to his heart and the real world
around him. “I don’t paint eye candy and I can’t
force myself to paint good sellers.” When we look deeply
into this artist’s work, we too seem to know the people,
feel the wind or the stillness in the trees and embark on a journey
with this painter! No, Entrekin does not paint eye candy but more
surely, “Candy for the Heart.”
