My work can be described as visual folklore. I am intrigued by the lost art of story telling and its ability to captivate an audience. As a result, I try to captivate the viewers of my artwork and allow then to feel the experience of those whose lives are represented in my art. I compose imagery, literature, and nature in a layered atmosphere that serves to document the past and form a foundation for the future.

The process begins with a base material of used commercial photography paper, which is used to create an atmosphere. Next, a layered combination of paint, screen-printed images, random patterns and text are applied over the photography paper. Once the desired effect is created, screen-printed images of enlarged vintage photographs are added, followed by additional layers of paint and screen-printing to complete the work.

These pieces are not only about the surface, but also about the layers of complexity that compose the lives of mankind. Often, stereotypes strengthen because no time is taken to explore the complexity of individuals’ lives. If individuals were to take time, we would all gain a greater understanding of humanity. Similarly, my work also deals with the battle of man versus machine—the more society relies on ‘machine,’ the more we detach from humanity and understanding.
